Hillary 2001 Flashback: Why “Would I Ever Want to Do Email” That Leads To Investigations?

Guest Post by Mara Zebest

Flashback to a 2001 ABC 20/20 report on a prior Hillary scandal. Note at the 3:30 minute marker Hillary asks, “Why would I ever want to do email?” Hillary explains that emails could leave her wide open to scrutiny during any potential investigation.

Hat Tip BuzzFeed for the transcript as follows:

ROSS: (VO) Dionne Warwick sang for the small group. Ironically enough, “That’s what friends are for.” Numerous stars were there, but Paul and his wife Andrea were the ones seated right next to Mrs. Clinton. In fact, Paul’s home videos picked up Mrs. Clinton saying she had stopped using e-mail messages because of all the investigations she had been through.

Senator CLINTON: (From home video) As much as I’ve been investigated and all of that, you know, why would I—I don’t even want—why would I ever want to do e-mail?

Mr. PAUL: (From home video) No, no.

Senator CLINTON: (From home video) Can you imagine?

Fast forward to 2015 email scandal. The below video highlights many horrible press conference questions. NOTE the first scripted softball question from a Turkish reporter blaming the email scandal on genitalia… clearly scripted by the way the reporter stumbles while desperately attempting to remember how the question was originally crafted.

But the all time favorite excuse which will most likely be repeated endlessly and never scrutinized by the clapping seal press is the claim that Hillary was limited to one email account due to a desire to stay within a ONE-PHONE-LIMIT. The implication being that if she participated in a government email account AND a personal account, it would require two phones.

Exit Question: In the age of technology, does the media think any “thinking American” would buy the premise that everyone has ONE email account PER phone? For example: If a citizen has a gmail account, a yahoo email account, and a business email account, is it not possible for this same citizen to check all three accounts on the same phone?

As a counter argument for accepting the two phone excuse is this tweet of the day in which Sarah Palin is not only able to juggle two phones… but does so… while hands are full with baby as well:

And will end on another TWEET CLASSIC CLINTON comparison of excuses:
