YIKES: Canadian Police Livestream Double Homicide Announcement With Cat Ear Filter

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in British Columbia accidentally broadcast cat ears and whiskers onto one of their officers as she announced updates about a double homicide.

The press conference regarding the killing of an American woman and her Australian boyfriend was being streamed to Facebook Live when police claim that the filter turned on automatically.

“[W]e are aware and addressing it as it’s an automatic setting. Thank you, we will rectify and issue a video shortly,” the RCMP tweeted as the press conference was taking place.

Sgt. Janelle Shoihet, the officer who was speaking, ultimately ended up apologizing for the technical difficulties and re-recorded the entire press conference.

Sgt. Shoihet was discussing the case of Chynna Noelle Deese, 24, and Lucas Robertson Fowler, 23, who were both found dead on a remote patch of Highway 97 earlier this week.

The RCMP is asking for anyone with information about the murders to contact them here.
