Brooklyn native and Georgia Tech Police Department officer Robert Rodriguez engaged a passerby in a dance competition that was smooth enough for the P.D. to put on its Facebook page.

Following a training session with other officers, the 30-year-old officer spotted a young man practicing some moves across the street. Looking through a fence — and unaware he was being filmed — the funky cop showed off his pop-and-lock skills to the dancing civilian. The officer’s unidentified dance partner accepted the challenge, at times matching Rodriguez’s steps and also showing off a few moves of his own.

Rodriguez told Patch.com he might have been hesitant had he known the dance-off was being recorded, but that turned out to be pleasant surprise.

“It was cool because oftentimes, a lot of officers don’t get any good publicity,” Rodriguez said. “For people to see we’re human and that we like to have fun just like anybody else, it’s just really nice to see that.”

Rodriguez, who is a member of the department’s CORE team to engage the community on and around the Georgia Tech campus, said he and the other dancer never spoke. He joined the force in September, according to WSB-TV in Atlanta.
