Shelagh Sweeney and Zach Bundschuh of upstate Kingston were in Manhattan hoping for a day on the town Monday when they came upon the scene of a stabbing in Chinatown and helped save a man who was knifed in the neck.

The victim, who witnesses said was in his 60s and possibly homeless, gushed blood near a bench on the corner of St. James Pl. and James St. at about 8:15 p.m. — two blocks from NYPD headquarters.

“We saw the blood on the ground," Bundschuh, 25, said. “He had a large gash in his neck, so we put pressure on it.”

“They did two compressions and he opened his eyes,” said Bundschuh, whose T-shirt was streaked with the victim’s blood.
