For two decades, U.S. News & World Report announced the University of Oklahoma has been falsifying alumni endowment rates.

The magazine, which ranks universities in its highly regarded annual Best Colleges edition, stated the Norman, Okla.-based school offered “inflated data on its alumni giving rates for two decades.”

U.S. News & World Report then announced Oklahoma would be unranked in its 2019 edition because of the incorrect data stretching back from 1999, reported CNN.

The university originally said its two-year alumni giving rate was 14% but later informed the magazine that the correct number was really 9.7%.

“We appreciate the work of U.S. News & World Report and continue to have pride in the top rankings of several of our programs,” said Oklahoma University’s interim president Joseph Harroz. “Rest assured, our university has learned from this occurrence and is working toward the goal of achieving future rankings for 2020 and beyond that reflect OU’s excellence and academic success.”
