Posted By TheNewsCommenter: From Pagesix.com: “UBS financial advisor arrested in Anguilla for manslaughter”. Below is an excerpt from the article.

A Connecticut financial adviser on vacation with his family in Anguilla was arrested on manslaughter charges this week.

Cops on the Caribbean island issued a statement on Wednesday that they’d arrested Gavin Scott Hapgood, 44, for alleged manslaughter after launching an investigation into the death of a local man.

A Royal Anguilla Police Force post on Facebook initially said that “bail was denied and Mr. Hapgood was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison to return to court” on Aug. 22. But a subsequent report by a local newspaper, the Anguillian, claimed Hapgood was released on bail of about $74,000. The outlet further reported, “Hapgood was on vacation with his family in Anguilla staying at a hotel in the West End of the island,” and that the victim “was an employee of the same hotel.” The paper said a death certificate indicated the man died “due to prone restraint, positional asphyxia and blunt force trauma to the head, neck and torso.”

A rep for UBS, where Hapgood works, told Page Six: “We are aware of the recent events in Anguilla and are following the situation closely. As you will appreciate, it would not be appropriate for us to provide any comment in relation to an active criminal proceeding.”

Hapgood’s local attorney in the case reportedly told the court, “He has every intention to return to Anguilla to clear his name.” The lawyer, Thomas Astaphan, did not comment further when we reached out.
