Two family men were fatally shot at a Pennsylvania campground early Saturday during an annual gathering of about 16 friends and relatives.

Miles Jones, 40, is in custody after authorities say he fatally shot 46-year-old Arthur Hill and 41-year-old Eric Braxton.

Hill and Braxton were among those who had intervened after Jones had started fighting with his girlfriend during the get-together at Homestead Family Campgrounds in West Rockhill Township.

“There were many others at risk in this group close by, and many, many more people at risk who were camping nearby in the same campground,” Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub said during a press conference later Saturday. “It’s tragic obviously to lose these two family men, but it could have been much, much worse.”

Investigators say that Jones repeatedly asked for his overnight bag after the “initial altercation.” Jones was able to retrieve a “duffle style bag” from the trunk of a vehicle and then sat in the vehicle with the bag, according to the criminal complaint.
