The Trump Organization wants a judge to toss Michael Cohen’s lawsuit claiming the company owes him more than $1.9 million because of a contract he claims he had with his former employer, which the company calls “phantom” and “fictitious,” in new court papers.
President Trump’s former lawyer and “fixer” sued the Trump Organization last month claiming in July 2017 it agreed to indemnify him of legal fees and costs he incurred during Special Counsel Robert Mueller and several congressional committees’ probes into Trump.
But Trump Organization lawyer Marc Mukasey says there was never any written contract struck and Cohen’s claims about any oral agreement with the company are false and too “vague” to honor anyway.
“A convicted liar, on his way to prison, suddenly alleges a self-serving ‘agreement’ whereby his former employer purportedly agreed to not only pay any and all of his legal fees, but also pay all of the underlying fines, restitution, and forfeiture resulting from his personal guilty pleas,” Mukasey wrote in papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.
Cohen worked as the executive vice president of the Trump Organization for more than a decade until the feds raided his home, hotel room and office in April 2018.
