Wimbledon was back in perhaps the most fitting way today - as rain stopped play at SW19 after just 45 minutes on its return to full capacity for the first time in three years. 

The 2022 championship marks the first time the grounds will be filled with up to 42,000 people every day since before the coronavirus pandemic.

Some spectators camped out since Friday, pitching tents in a public park opposite the courts over the weekend, to be at the front of the famous queue, where thousands patiently wait to buy on-the-door tickets in the hope of seeing some of the world's biggest sports stars.

A large crowd had already gathered at the gates in south-west London this morning - more than two hours before opening time at 10am. 

But less than hour after the first ball was served on court, the covers were quickly pulled back on as showers began to fall across the complex and fans quickly huddled under umbrellas.
