The body of a veteran Louisiana state trooper who was gunned down on duty wasn’t found for a “absolutely unacceptable” 14 hours, the department’s superintendent revealed Monday.

Master Trooper Adam Gaubert, a 19-year member of the force, was working a traffic accident in Ascension Parish after 2:30 a.m. Saturday when he was killed during a string of shootings that also left a woman dead.

But authorities didn’t find his body until about 5 p.m. that day — after cops had arrested and charged the accused gunman, department Superintendent Lamar Davis said at a news conference on the tragedy on Monday.

“The time between the murder of Master Trooper Gaubert and the time he was found is absolutely unacceptable,” an emotional Davis said during the briefing. “And the results of this chaotic situation contributed to just that.”

Matthew Mire, 31, was arrested in the series of shootings and is facing charges in Gaubert’s death and the slaying of 37-year-old Pamela Adair.
