A since-retired Portland cop was indicted Wednesday for allegedly striking a suspected looter with an unmarked police van during protests last June, a report said.

Scott Groshong, who left the force in August, is facing misdemeanor charges for the alleged incident that happened near the Portland Skate and Snowboard shop, sources told The Oregonian.

Groshong and his partner were conducting undercover surveillance about midnight June 15 when they witnessed three men looting from the store, the newspaper reported, citing court records.

The indicted officer, who served 27 years with the department, is accused of hitting one of the alleged thieves who stole a helmet as they ran across the street, according to accounts from the shop’s owner and video shot by an area resident.

The suspected looter claimed the officer “knowingly hit him” and then drove away, according to a statement from Daryl Turner, the president of the Portland Police Association.
