Dramatic body camera video captured the moment New Jersey police saved a man threatening to jump from a railing over the Passaic River.
The incident happened just before 10 p.m. on Monday in a portion of Riverfront Park near Raymond Blvd. and Read St., authorities said in a press release on Tuesday.
In the small section of the park, there is a paved area that juts out high over the river. Cops were called to the scene after an officer was flagged down by a woman who spotted the man on the railing, and said he was threatening to jump.
Two Newark cops, identified as Officers Allen and Lovo, approached the man and started talking to him in an attempt to lure him away from the railing.
Several more officers, these from the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, then arrived. This distracted the man, authorities said, allowing officers to quickly approach him and pull him away from the railing.
