The future of The Local Coffee Company, a shop opened in Oak Grove a year ago, recently seemed up in the air after its owner, Dave McAdams, went into hospice care following a terminal cancer diagnosis, CNN reported.

McAdams – a youth pastor, baseball coach, and even a member of the Portland Ghostbusters group – has inoperable cancer in his lymph nodes and doctors say he only has a few weeks to live.

The devastating diagnosis has prompted support from members across the community, including the owner of nearby Moonlight Coffee House, Pixie Adams.

McAdam’s wife, Tina, said Adams closed down her own shop on Wednesday to run her competitor’s business – this way The Local Coffee Company could continue to operate while its owner spent time with his loved ones.

But Adams didn’t stop there – she created a Facebook event and turned her day in the neighboring shop to a fundraiser. In just five hours, the business earned $3,300, all of which will go toward McAdam’s medical expenses and supporting the Local Coffee Company.
