Manhattan: Without knowing the facts of the Eric Garner tragedy, many of which are coming to light for the first time during this department trial, the media has prejudged and misjudged the case from day one. In fact, the most important testimony — including scientific evidence showing that Garner was not killed by a chokehold — has yet to be heard, but that doesn’t stop The News from deciding the case (“The final insults,” editorial, May 24).
Your editorial does a serious disservice to the truth. Twisting as-yet-incomplete evidence to advance an anti-cop political agenda should be beneath your storied publication, because it undermines the essential American values of due process and justice. Your Editorial Board should be forming its opinion based on a thorough review of all the facts, not allowing politics to supersede the rule of law. Patrick J. Lynch, president, New York City Police Benevolent Association
Cleveland: Abortion is used primarily as convenient birth control because people are too self-centered to take precautions. They prefer their own pleasurable self-indulgence over the care and sanctity of the life they created. Whatever happened to taking responsibility for one’s actions? Is it too much to ask a woman who has conceived to place the child up for adoption? Does the father of the child have a say in this? And what about the Constitution of the United States? Are not all people conceived in this country deserving of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? We need to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision and get back to cherishing life, for a country that murders it’s children cannot be far from self destruction. Joe Bialek
Manhattan: Men are deciding what women can do concerning their health and abortion. What’s wrong with this picture? Felicia Caggiano
Staten Island: To Voicer Linda Garramone: I am not in favor of abortion. I think it’s a morally repugnant act. However, I will not force my opinions, religious beliefs, or political stand down anyone else’s throats. Therefore, I am pro-choice. Victor R. Stanwick
