The College Republicans chapter at Portland State University was planning to have radio personality Lars Larson broadcast live from campus this Monday, Oct. 22nd, as part of one of the student group’s events to support the 2nd Amendment.
That is until university officials were alerted that Lars could possibly maybe might be carrying a lawfully concealed handgun onto campus. The TRIGGERED university officials have jumped into action to shut down the event.
Cythia J. Starke, part of the paper shuffling gaggle of “general counsel” attorneys for the univeristy, has now issued an ultimatum to both Lars and the student group. Other university officials are threatening to not only cancel the event, but to defund the student group and possibly even expel students if they don’t cancel the event.
There’s just one problem for Ms. Starke. There is no state law that prohibits a lawful Concealed Handgun License holder from carrying on public school grounds.

ORS 166.370 makes a specific mention that licensed CHL holders can legally carry on public school grounds.
Portland State University has a “policy” that says no employees or students can carry on campus. Those who do could face repercussions. However, their “policy” does not TRUMP state law.
In fact, one case has set the standard for this. Several years ago, a Western Oregon University student and former Marine was carrying a gun on campus. They expelled him, and he took his case to the higher courts, and eventually won.

As a friendly reminder, your group is a recognized PSU student organization and we expect that you all will abide by PSU and SALP policies when hosting events and inviting guests to campus. We also expect that you inform your guests of PSU policies that may come up during their campus visit as part of the regular pre-event planning process. We encourage you to review the PSU Firearm Policy with your guests prior to the event and take efforts to have them comply with the policy.
Finally, if you or your guests have security concerns please let me know so we can work together to explore options to mitigate them. At this point, I understand that your group decided against using some of the suggested risk mitigation strategies that we routinely recommend to groups that hosts events where audiences are expected to be large, the event is not restricted to students only, persons who are regionally or nationally prominent are speaking or attending, and where we reasonably believe the event is likely to attract a large number of attendees. The strategies recommended to your group previously have included using the PSU box office, limiting admission to students only, or having an invited guest list. If you change your mind and would like some help with these or other strategies, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I have more updates regarding your event on Monday, 10/22.First, this morning our PSU Office of General Counsel sent a letter to your proposed guests asking if they intend to comply with the PSU Firearm Policy during their visit next week. In the letter PSU General Counsel states that if your guests do not affirm that they plan to comply with the PSU Firearm Policy by this Friday at noon the invitation to attend the event will be rescinded. If the offer to attend is rescinded, I think it would be good for us to strategize some alternative ways that you all could still host your event and connect with Lars, maybe via phone or Skype or Google Hangouts or some other video conferencing type of program.Also, with the change of venue to Parsons Gallery we will need to rethink about ways to mitigate risk at the event as this space, compared to the original space in the basement of Smith Memorial Student Union, is in proximity to classroom and administrative spaces that will be in use.Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need anything.With gratitude,~Virginia

However, for her gross misunderstanding of the law, supposed attorney Cynthia Starke could face sanctions by the Oregon State Bar.
This author personally knows several PSU students, who are CHL holders, who regularly carry on campus. Many of these students are females who are concerned for their safety when getting out of class night, as Portland “mayor” Ted Wheeler allows the drug and homeless epidemic to get further out of hand on his watch.
Kevin Starrett, director of Oregon Firearms Federation, tells The Gateway Pundit “Based on our experience, I just don’t see where they have the power to do this. Their argument is completely illegal. We’ve known of people who have been trespassed from colleges for legally carrying a firearm, and we tell the university we’re going to show up with our attorneys, and the university lifts the trespass notice. When it’s just a ‘policy’ or ‘administrative rule’ you have standing to sue because they don’t have force of law.”
Starrett also tells us that he has spoken at events on campus at PSU and was never questioned by officials.
Meanwhile, far left student activists at Portland State University routinely engage in disruptive protests during classes, use sound amplification devices without approval on university property, harass and threaten community members, chase the College Republicans out of their own events, gained national notoriety after crashing a pro Trump student group meeting, intimidate pro Israel student groups, sabotage sound equipment for events put on by non communist student groups, and even crash university board of trustees meetings, which often result in the board members being forced to flee the area with the protection of, you guessed it, armed campus security.
The far left students who engage in that behavior never face any discipline. Instead, the university officials target peaceful people who have a clean background and have never shown a propensity for violence or disruptive behavior.
