Two people were killed when their plane crashed into Metlakatla Harbor in Alaska, only a few miles from where an aircraft with the same operator was involved in a midair collision last week which left six people dead.

Both the pilot and a passenger were killed when the de Havilland Beaver Floatplane, operated by Taquan Air, went down Monday around 4 p.m., according to a statement from Ketchikan Gateway Borough. The two victims, who have not been identified, were the only people on the aircraft at the time of the deadly incident.

“The circumstances of the crash are not being released at this time,” the statement reads. “The names of the deceased will not be released until next of kin have been notified.”

Borough officials noted “Good Samaritans” volunteered to retrieve the plane and are “bringing the Beaver to the beach until it can be secured.”

Taquan Air also operated a Beaver floatplane involved in a fatal accident last week in the same area. Six people died when a pair of sightseeing planes collided mid-air near Ketchikan. One of the victims was traveling aboard the Taquan while the other five were passengers on a Mountain Air Service plane.
