Transport Workers Union Local 100, which represents more than 40,000 NYC Transit workers, reached a tentative deal on a new contract with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority on Wednesday, ending a bitter negotiation that dragged on for more than six months.

The new agreement will be taken to Local 100′s executive board later this week before it will be voted on by the union’s rank-and-file members.

Local 100 president Tony Utano in August publicly chided a contract offer from the MTA, which would have allowed the authority to alter elements of the contract as they see fit if worker attendance did not improve.

In October MTA chairman Pat Foye sent an unhinged email to Utano, accusing the union boss of orchestrating a “Utano Specialty Drug Scam.”

The strange note came after Utano suggested the agency meet with an outside firm that said it could shave millions off the MTA’s health care costs.
