It’s been exactly a year since the very unhappy Valentine’s Day when a quartet of pandering politicians in thrall to shortsighted advocates chased Amazon and its 25,000 to 40,000 fabulous jobs out of Long Island City, killing a deal that would’ve given New York its strongest foothold yet in the critical tech economy.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, state Sen. Mike Gianaris, City Council Speaker Corey Johnson and Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer took potshot after potshot at what by any honest measure was a good deal for the city and its taxpayers, and it cost us dearly.

As for the $3 billion in state and city incentives they whined about: The company was entitled to or would’ve otherwise qualified for most. In any event, that money couldn’t be redirected for schools or health care or transit as claimed because it all hinged on the jobs and estimated $27 billion in tax revenue being generated first.

Those jobs, paying average salaries of $125,000, would’ve filled a crying need for quality positions in a city that now creates opportunities at the bottom and at the tippy top of the economic ladder, not in between. Of course, the preening pols are still collecting their healthy taxpayer-provided paychecks, benefits and pensions.

The least they can do to repay their debt is ensure the now-fallow site becomes something worthwhile after all. We’re watching.
