A New Jersey woman has admitted to scalding a 3-year-old boy under her care as he endured continuous torture in what prosecutors describe as a "house of horrors."
Patricia Buchan, 29, confessed to pouring a pot of boiling water on the child’s body to punish him in the Newark home, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
The disturbing incident took place in December. Buchan was one of six residents of the apartment who took turns abusing the child, according to authorities.
“This child lived his first three years in a house of horrors," Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Michael Morris said Friday, according to NJ.com. “Today’s plea resolves the case without the ordeal of the children having to testify.”
Mary Buchan, Bridget Buchan, Patricia Gamarra, Homer (Omar) Searcy and the child’s mom Natacha Smith were also arrested for the abuse they inflicted on the little boy. Investigators said last year that they took turns punching, whipping and scalding the innocent child as part of a twisted form of “systematic and coordinated” corporal punishment.
