NEOCONS SIDELINED? President Trump Approves Allowing Rand Paul to Meet With Iran in Attempt to Ease Tensions

In a move sure to infuriate the Neoconservatives that are itching for war, President Donald Trump has agreed to allow pro-peace Senator Rand Paul to meet with Iran in a diplomatic mission to attempt to ease tensions.

According to a report from Politico, the president signed off on the proposal from Senator Paul over the weekend, which will allow him to act as a liaison to Iran. Senator Paul pitched the idea while they were golfing.

“Paul proposed sitting down with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif to extend a fresh olive branch on the president’s behalf, according to four U.S. officials. The aim: to reduce tensions between the two countries. Trump signed off on the idea,” Politico reports.

Senator Paul has been one of the most outspoken advocates of an ‘America First’ agenda that would stop endless wars and bring our troops home. He is the antithesis of Trump’s national security adviser John Bolton — who has repeatedly appeared to be sidelined by the president in recent weeks, including being sent to Mongolia while the president brought populist anti-needless war Fox News host Tucker Carlson with him to North Korea.

The hawkish Senator Lindsey Graham was also present on the golf outing over the weekend, tweeting a photo of himself with Senator Paul and the president and writing, “reminded President Trump how dumb it was for President Obama to ignore sound military advice by pulling out of Iraq, creating ISIS.”

Senator Paul responded to Senator Graham’s tweet by writing, “Proud that @realDonaldTrump and I argued with you against endless wars! @POTUS made it clear to all of us at the table, we are getting out of the Middle East quagmire. We’ve been there too long. Time to bring our troops home.”
