NBC revealed details of its new streaming service Peacock, including its July 15 launch date and subscription prices, at an event for investors.
In a crowded field of streaming services, with even more on the way, NBC is taking the bold step to offer a free version of Peacock with advertising. Dubbed Peacock Free, it will have about 7,500 hours of programming at launch and include access to current NBC programs, complete seasons of selected series, Universal Studios movies and curated material from the archives, including “SNL Vault.”
The paid tiers of Peacock Premium, $4.99 with ads, $9.99 without, will have live sports, including English Premier League soccer matches unavailable on TV. Peacock Premium will have more than 15,000 hours of content, including classic series as well as new shows developed for the streaming platform from Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, Will Forte and other creators.
NBC is also going to premiere episodes of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on Peacock Premium before they are broadcast on TV.
NBC announced that Comcast (which owns the network) and Cox cable subscribers can get free access to Peacock Premium with ads and $5 for the ad-free version.
