If the Mets’ season comes down to one game, there’s a good chance they’ll be giving the baseball to the pitcher they can rely on most.

Mets manager Mickey Callaway said in a pregame press conference on Friday he hadn’t ruled out starting Jacob deGrom in the last game of the season if the Mets’ post-season life depends on it. The Mets will play the NL East champion Braves that day.

It’s the first time Callaway and the Mets have said they’d switch up the rotation in regards to the playoff race.

DeGrom, who started for the Mets in the first of three games against the Reds in Cincinnatti last night, technically could have his next turn through the rotation on September 25, against the Marlins. That means he would be going on short rest if the Mets need their ace that last game of the season.

Callaway also said if it matters that last game, the Mets could also pitch Noah Syndergaard — who’s regular turn through the rotation would be that last game of the season — out of the bullpen after deGrom.
