LONDON (AP) - A key suspect in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing that killed 22 people is scheduled to make his first court appearance Thursday.
Hashem Abedi, the younger brother of suicide bomber Salman Abedi, is due in Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London Thursday morning for what is likely to be a brief hearing.
He was extradited from Libya Wednesday and arrested in Britain for murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life.
Authorities believe Hashem played a major role in planning the suicide bombing, the deadliest in a string of extremist attacks in London and Manchester in the spring and summer of 2017.
His brother, Salman Abedi, died in the attack at the conclusion of an Ariana Grande concert on May 22, 2017.
