A man in his 40s was stabbed to death in London last night in a suspected fight in a house, becoming the capital's 136th murder victim so far this year.

The victim was found with a stab wound and pronounced dead at the scene at Shelley House in Hornsey, North London, after police were called at about 6pm.

Two men aged 48 and 54 have been arrested on suspicion of murder and the victim's family have been told, although he has not been formally identified. 

The total number of murders in London this year surpassed last year's total of 132 last Friday – and is now the highest since 2008 when there were 154.

Yesterday's murder comes after the capital was gripped by 12 hours of violence last week, which saw three murders in Knightsbridge, Hackney and Greenwich.
