Posted By TheNewsCommenter: From Dailymail.co.uk: “Sheriff to reveal 'speed cause of Tiger Woods' near-fatal car crash'”. Below is an excerpt from the article.

The Los Angeles County sheriff is expected to reveal today that the rollover crash that nearly killed Tiger Woods in Southern California was caused by the champion golfer doing nearly 40mph over the speed limit.

TMZ reported early Wednesday, citing an unnamed source, that Sheriff Alex Villanueva was set to announce later today that at the time of the accident on February 23, Woods was going at 83mph in a 45mph speed zone, and that excessive speed was the sole cause of the crash.

It comes just a week after Villanueva said the department would not release details of the cause, citing unspecified privacy concerns for the golf star, despite detectives having the answer.

The claim by Villanueva that his deputies needed permission from Woods to reveal the findings of their investigation struck legal observers as odd.

But now the findings of the probe into the February 23 crash will be released on Wednesday morning in a confusing U-turn, police sources told TMZ.
