The latest edition of the Jets Mailbag features the possibility that Gang Green will improve, but still not win more games in 2020, a dream free agency from yesteryear and pipedream trade offer.
If the Jets go 7-9 again, will this 7-9 be considered a better season than last year’s 7-9 (because) of our schedule? - @THENATUREBOY1
You could make a case that the Jets might actually improve in 2020, but still finish with the same record as 2019. The truth is that the Jets were a 6-9 team that won a de facto fifth preseason game against the Bills’ backups in Week 17. Regardless, going 7-9 with the fifth easiest schedule (.473 opponents’ winning percentage) isn’t anything to write home to mom about.
Some fans, frankly, believed that the Jets squandered a golden opportunity to make the playoffs against such a cupcake schedule. Gang Green’s only win against a playoff team came against Buffalo’s jayvee squad in the season finale.
The road looks exceedingly more difficult on paper in 2020. Instead of playing four games against the worst division in football (NFC East), Adam Gase’s club will face the best (NFC West). Gang Green will have the second toughest strength of schedule in 2020 behind only the Patriots. 2020 Jets opponents had a .533 (136-119-1) winning percentage in 2019.
