Claremont United Methodist Church in Southern California caused a stir with their nativity scene this year after depicting Jesus, Mary and Joseph as a family separated at the border.

The church also released a statement regarding the United States’ treatment of refugees that hangs near the scene, which shows the family in three separate chain link cells adorned with razor wire.

Senior Minister Karen Clark Ristine released the statement along with a photo of the scene on Facebook.
