Demand Senate Halt Brett Kavanaugh Hearings and Launch FBI Investigation into Sexual Assault Allegations

New York, NY – As public outrage grows related to the confirmation process for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, particularly in light of recent allegations of sexual assault by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, women from all walks of life, including celebrities, survivors, and advocates, released a video today in support of Dr. Ford.

Since information related to the allegations was disclosed, Dr. Ford has faced immense backlash and even death threats, echoing the 1991 hearings of Anita Hill, who came forward with experiences of sexual harassment by then nominee Clarence Thomas.

In the video, actresses America Ferrera, Julianne Moore, Gabrielle Union, and others join women leaders, including Paola Mendoza, Sarah Sophie Flicker, Monica Ramirez, Ai-jen Poo, Piper Perabo, and Reshma Saujani, to express their solidarity with Dr. Blasey Ford and affirm the credibility of her testimony.

They are part of a growing movement of survivors and people across the country, who are asking that the confirmation proceedings be postponed until the FBI conducts a full investigation into the matter. The nomination of Judge Kavanaugh has also been scrutinized by numerous groups due to his harmful record on reproductive rights, immigration, and workers rights’, among other issues.

A link to the video can be found here with the full text of the letter below:

Dear Professor Ford,

We know how difficult it is to stand up to powerful people. We want to thank you for publicly sharing your story of sexual violence. As members of the Senate determine whether Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh should serve as a Supreme Court Justice, this context is critical.

The behavior you described was wrong and runs directly counter to upholding the law and promoting justice. He should not be confirmed.

We can also imagine how shocking and overwhelming it must have been to have your truths shared on a national stage without your permission. You should be the only decision maker about how your story is shared, if ever. We applaud your courage in coming forward for the public good, and we will be with you as you face the inevitable backlash.

You are strong. And, you are not alone. You are a survivor. Millions of us have your back. You and your testimony are credible. We believe you.

Signed,

Your sisters
