A Georgia teenager accused of planning an armed attack against a predominantly Black church offered a tearful apology while she entered her guilty plea.

Caitlyn Pye on Thursday said she was “truly sorry” for her plot against Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Gainesville. She was arrested last fall shortly after authorities were tipped off by school resource officers, who came across the teen’s notebook detailing her violent intentions, The Gainesville Times reported.

Investigators also found shirts emblazoned with phrases linked to white supremacy and references to mass shooter Dylann Roof, who was sentenced to death for killing nine Black members of of the Emanuel AME Church in South Carolina in June 2015.

The 17-year-old entered a guilty plea to one count of criminal attempt to commit a felony and sentenced to 10 years probation. She will remain in the Department of Juvenile Justice’s custody until she is 21.

Prelate of the Sixth Episcopal District of AME Churches Bishop Reginald Jackson at the sentencing hearing said he did not harbor any ill will toward Pye.
