When an armed student walked into an Oregon high school, the football coach was quick to act – tackling the gunman to the ground before anyone was injured.

The suspect, who was sporting a black trench coat and carrying a shotgun, entered a classroom at Parkrose High School in Portland on Friday, prepared to unleash a torrent of bullets on his classmates. But Keanon Lowe, one of Oregon’s most well-known high school and college football players in the last decade, took him down before he could.

“I’m just happy everyone was OK,” he told The Oregonian/Oregon Live. "I’m happy I was able to be there for the kids and the community.”

Authorities are still investigating the incident and are working to determine whether the student gunman fired off any shots.

A parent told the Oregon news outlet that the gunman brought the weapon to school with the intent of dying by suicide. Student Alexa Pope said her classmate did not point at the gun at anyone.
