What started as a dispute between football fans on Super Bowl night ended with a woman shot in the head and a child fatally struck by her car.

New details into the chaotic moments leading to the tragic Feb. 7 events were released this week as Florida authorities announced murder charges against a man suspected of causing the boy’s death.

Jose Ortiz, 29, is accused of shooting a driver who lost control of her car and struck the 14-year-old victim, killing him. The driver has since recovered from her injuries and does not face charges “at this time,” according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Ortiz was arrested at his Tampa home Monday on charges of first- and third-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, aggravated battery and violation of probation.

The killing happened during a brawl sparked by a verbal dispute between people rooting for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs, who were playing the Super Bowl that night, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the Tampa Bay Times.
