Fight For President Trump’s Tax Returns on Fast Track to Supreme Court

Trump’s lawyers and the crooked Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance reached a deal to pause the subpoena for Trump’s tax returns until the Supreme Court either declines to hear the case or issues an opinion.

The DC Circuit Court of Appeals earlier this month upheld a subpoena for Trump’s financial records to his accounting firm, Mazars USA.

President Trump hit back and filed an emergency appeal — a federal judge granted the president a stay and the case got bounced back to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals.

NBC reported:

In a letter filed Monday with the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals, lawyers from D.A. Cyrus Vance’s office said they’ll hold off on trying to enforce the subpoena against Trump’s accounting firm until after the court of appeals publishes their opinion and after either one of the sides asks the Supreme Court to examine the case.

The two sides are set to face off in oral arguments before the 2nd Circuit on Wednesday, following a lower court’s ruling that the accounting firm, Mazars USA, had to turn the documents over to the D.A.

Under the terms of the deal announced on Monday, Vance’s office say they’d agree to postpone the enforcement of the subpoena until 10 days after the 2nd Circuit issues its opinion to give Trump’s team time to appeal to the Supreme Court to hear the case in its current term or for Vance to appeal to the Supreme Court if the opinion isn’t in their favor.

Manhattan DA Cy Vance Jr. in August subpoenaed eight years of Trump’s tax returns and corporate income tax returns.

The DA in August opened a criminal investigation into Trump’s role in the ‘hush payments’ made to porn star Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal.

A shell company formed by Trump’s former lawyer-turned-snake Michael Cohen made payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal during the 2016 election to allegedly buy their silence about affairs they had with Donald Trump more than a decade ago.

Even if the Manhattan DA obtains Trump’s tax returns, they may not be released to the public because they could be covered in secrecy rules that protect grand jury material — unless the documents are used as evidence in a criminal case.

The Constitution does not require that a presidential candidate or a sitting US president release their tax returns, however the Democrats have been gunning for the tax docs to continue their witch hunt against Trump.
