A Kroger employee in Georgia accused of stealing nearly $1 million from the popular supermarket chain has been arrested.

Over the course of two weeks in December and January, Gwinnett County police said Tre Brown created more than 40 returns for $980,000 worth of non-existent items, and then spread them out on several different credit cards. They ranged from $75 to more than $87,000 in cost, authorities said in a press release.

Corporate employees eventually noticed the fraudulent transactions and tipped off law enforcement officers. Police said Brown carried out his scheme while an employee responsible for flagging fraudulent transaction was on vacation.

A preliminary investigation revealed that 19-year-old suspect used the money to buy clothes, shot guns, and two cars.

Police said the Atlanta-based teen totaled one of the vehicles, a Chevrolet Camaro, prior to his arrest on Thursday. He has since been released from jail on $11,200, CBS News reported.
