Mayor de Blasio is finally ready to put somebody in the driver’s seat at the Taxi & Limousine Commission, some six months after his previous pick to head the agency flubbed a City Council confirmation hearing.
Hizzoner plans to nominate Aloysee Heredia Jarmoszuk, currently the chief of staff for deputy mayor Laura Anglin, within the next few weeks, according to two sources familiar with the decision.
On Tuesday, a Daily News reporter watched as Jarmoszuk — on her way to meet with City Council Speaker Corey Johnson’s chief of staff — ducked into City Hall’s basement to take a more private route through the building rather than walk through the main floor rotunda.
The TLC already reports directly to Anglin’s office — and Jamoszuk deals with the agency on a regular basis, according to sources. She had an active role last year in establishing strict regulations on ride-hail apps like Uber and Lyft, and was a force behind the scenes while TLC officials endured intense criticism over the city’s taxi medallion crisis.
Last summer de Blasio nominated former TLC deputy commissioner Jeff Roth to head the embattled agency, three months after the previous chair Meera Joshi left the post.
