Parents may go to extremes to defend their children, but that doesn’t mean there’s ever a good reason to break into a school bus and point a loaded pistol at middle-schoolers.

That’s what police say Christian M. Goodson did in St. Louis, Missouri on Wednesday morning, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Goodson was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and seven counts of endangering the welfare of a child, all felonies, as well as misdemeanor charges of second-degree property damage and fourth-degree assault.

The report says that Goodson had two kids on board the bus, and was upset that a student was fighting with one of them. He wasn’t allowed on the bus initially, but he used the pistol to break the glass on the door. Afraid that he would start shooting, a school district employee on the bus opened the door to let him on.

According to police, Goodson then pushed a female bus driver and pointed the gun at everybody while the students ran to the back. He reportedly said, “You got what you wanted,” took his two kids, and left. Goodson was later arrested at his home.

On board the bus were nine middle school students, a new bus driver, an older bus driver monitoring the new one, and a staff member on board because of recent fights on the bus. A spokesperson for the school district said that the new bus driver — the one who got pushed — didn’t let one angry man with a pistol scare her away from the job.
