HELENA, Mont. (AP) - The Montana Supreme Court has ruled against a woman seeking information about the police investigation into her brother’s unsolved death and dismemberment in 2011.

The court ruled 5-0 Tuesday that the release of the 1,000-page file could harm the eight-year-old investigation into John Michael Crites’ death.

Connie Crites is seeking the information for litigation related to her brother, whose remains were found in trash bags near MacDonald Pass.

Justice Jeremiah Shea writes there is a constitutional presumption that every document in the possession of public officials is subject to inspection.

But, he adds, the authors of the Montana Constitution recognized that certain interests take precedence over that constitutional right to know, including those necessary for the integrity of government.
