MSNBC’s Chris Hayes spoke with Kamala Harris after the debate tonight and asked her why she kept pushing for Elizabeth Warren to join her in calling for Twitter to take down President Donald Trump‘s account.
“Ask the whistleblower. Ask members of the United States Congress. Ask the people who are prepared to testify about this president’s lawlessness and obstruction of justice,” Harris responded. “Ask the people and the families in El Paso when that shooter admitted in his manifesto that he was influenced by Donald Trump’s tweets.”
She said people should be taking his “weaponization” of the platform more seriously, saying Trump’s actions “could result literally in the threat to safety of human beings who are participating in the process of justice.”
Hayes asked if there’s any part of you that’s “concerned about the precedent of a private company taking the platform away from the president of the United States or some other elected official.”
“Free speech does not condone or protect threats to the safety of other human beings,” she reiterated.
