Talk about a strong return on investment. This one lends a whole new meaning to the song lyric, “Brother can you spare a dime?”

The dime was made in 1894 and was one of just 24 cast, said Stack’s Bowers Galleries, the host of the auction, which was held at the ANA World’s Fair of Money last week.

The buyer was Utah businessman Dell Loy Hansen, who is now just six coins away from reaching his collection goal of one of every coin ever made by the U.S. Mint from 1792 to now, his representative John Brush told CNN.

Brush is president of David Lawrence Rare Coins and was in Chicago to bid on the rare coin, as he assists Hansen in filling out his collection, CNN said.

Part of the coin’s allure lies in its mystique, according to Stacks Bowers. Multiple myths abound about the origin of these rare dimes, in particular why only two dozen were made.
