A transgender cyclist who won a gold medal on Saturday has been forced to defend herself after coming under fire from critics who say she shouldn't be allowed to compete. 

Rachel McKinnon, 37, won gold in the 35-39 age category sprint at the Masters Track World Championships in Manchester on Saturday.  

Almost immediately after her win on Saturday, she was forced to respond to transphobic critics who were outraged that she was even allowed to compete.

Sue Gill wrote on Twitter: 'You are a cheat, who denies women who have trained all their adult lives for the chance to win those medals.
