Biden's campaign released a statement from the Democratic presidential frontrunner hours after Trump dismissed growing scrutiny over the complaint, which was reportedly filed by a member of the intelligence community raising concerns about Trump's discussion with a foreign leader.

"If these reports are true, then there is truly no bottom to President Trump’s willingness to abuse his power and abase our country. This behavior is particularly abhorrent because it exploits the foreign policy of our country and undermines our national security for political purposes," Biden said in the statement.

"It means that he used the power and resources of the United States to pressure a sovereign nation—a partner that is still under direct assault from Russia—pushing Ukraine to subvert the rule of law in the express hope of extracting a political favor," he added.

Trump earlier Friday dismissed scrutiny of his discussion with the foreign leader, saying he didn't know who the whistleblower was but deriding the complaint as "partisan" and "ridiculous." He also went after media coverage of the complaint and instead said the focus should be on Biden's ties to Ukraine during his time as vice president.
