AP Goes ‘Melania Conspiracy’ Over Pres. Trump’s Update on First Lady’s Health

Maybe she should follow LBJ’s example?

The Associated Press and one of its White House reporters, Darlene Superville, raised conspiratorial doubts about the health of First Lady Melania Trump after her husband President Donald Trump gave the press an update on her health Friday morning as he left the White House for the G7 summit in Quebec, saying Trump’s comments added “mystery” and “intrigue” to the situation.

Melania spent five days at the military’s Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland in May, recuperating from a kidney procedure. Hospitals try to discharge patients as soon as possible due to the risk of infection, so a five day stay is an indication of a serious procedure.

Melania did not accompany her husband on the trip. The President said to the press, ““First lady’s great–right there (pointing at the White House). She has to, and she wanted to go, can’t fly for one month, the doctors say. She had a big operation! That was a close to a four-hour operation. And uh, she’s doing great. Right there. And you know what? She’s a great First Lady.”

The AP posted a tweet for Superville’s article that reads, “The first lady’s office said she’d undergone a procedure for a benign kidney condition, but Trump says the first lady isn’t traveling with him because she had a four-hour operation and doctors told her not to fly for a month.”

Superville’s report reflected her initial conspiratorial take on Trump’s remarks, “.@POTUS adds to the intrigue surrounding @FLOTUS, telling reporters she wanted to join him at G-7 but she had a 4-hour operation and docs told her not to fly for a month…Trump used ‘surgery’ in his tweet earlier this week about Melania. First lady’s office initially said ‘procedure’”

Excerpt:

…Trump’s comments only added to the mystery surrounding his wife’s recent hospitalization and nearly four-week absence from the public eye.

The first lady’s office announced May 14 that she had had an embolization procedure to treat a kidney condition described as benign. She spent five nights in a military hospital before returning to the White House on May 19 to continue her recuperation.

Her office has declined to provide additional details about Mrs. Trump’s condition, citing privacy rights.

Mrs. Trump’s absence, beginning soon after she announced her initiative to teach kindness to children, sparked all sorts of theories about where she was and what might have happened to her, including that she had moved back to the family’s penthouse at Trump Tower in New York…”

Superville’s report concluded saying Melania had made her first public appearance since the surgery on Wednesday at a FEMA hurricane season briefing, but failed to note she had attended a private White House reception for Gold Star families Monday evening or that Melania had been seen by several reporters last week walking around the White House.

On Wednesday President Trump blasted the media for spreading vicious gossip about the First Lady as she recuperated in private.
