A similar number who travel 3,500 miles to Cairo can’t seem to find the time to make the eight-mile trip to see the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Despite having spent hundreds of pounds to travel to destinations across the world, four in ten Britons confess to failing to visit ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ landmarks. 

Other landmarks we fail to visit – according to the poll by holiday comparison site Kayak – are Christ the Redeemer (45 per cent) in Rio, Brazil, the Grand Canyon (32 per cent) in Arizona, USA, and the Sydney Opera House (25 per cent) in Australia.
