OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The number of active COVID-19 cases in Oklahoma fell Sunday, health officials reported, continuing a downward trend in the of count state residents fighting the disease caused by the coronavirus.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported 12,768 people with active cases of COVID-19 Sunday, 161 fewer than the day before. The actual number is believed to be far higher because many people haven’t been tested and some who get sick don’t show symptoms.

Health officials also reported 706 new cases of the virus and 49 more deaths associated with it, bringing the state’s totals to 424,508 confirmed cases and 4,428 fatalities.

There were 528 Oklahomans hospitalized with COVID-19 Friday, the most recent date for which state data is available.
