A suburban Washington D.C. first-grader reportedly turned her birthday party into a weekend protest that drew a crowd of scores of kids and parents calling for “kindness” outside the White House.
Kiyoko Merolli, 7, did cartwheels on the grass in Lafayette Park and made little secret of her dislike for President Trump.
“Time’s up for the bad stuff,” said Merolli, of Takoma Park, Maryland, according to the Washington Post.
Children carried signs with slogans like “Batman 2020” and “I love cats.” Some got more political like one young woman who led a chant: “Be kind. Stand tall. America should welcome all.”
Merolli had wanted to make her party an explicit rally calling for Trump’s impeachment. But her mom, who works for the government and feared retaliation, convinced her to make a more generic rally for a kindler and gentler America.
I got to go to the best birthday party today! Thank you to Kiyoko for inviting me to your 7th Birthday Protest Party. pic.twitter.com/kWaRDu4iFa— Kate Stewart (@KateforTakoma) November 9, 2019
