Two people were killed and more than a dozen others were injured after a gunman opened fire on a line of people waiting to get into a bar in Kansas City, Missouri, just hours after the city’s football team clinched a spot in the upcoming Super Bowl, authorities said.

Police believe one of the dead was the shooter, whose motive remained unclear Monday morning. He killed a woman and wounded 15 other people, three of whom were in critical condition, before he was shot by an armed security guard, Capt. David Jackson told reporters at the scene.

The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. outside 9ine Ultra Lounge, which appeared to be hosting a sold-out party to celebrate the Kansas City Chiefs’ win over the Tennessee Titans earlier on Sunday, according to the club’s Facebook page.

Jackson said officers found “quite a chaotic scene” when they arrived and had to call in help from multiple law enforcement agencies.

A preliminary investigation found that the gunman approached the line of people outside the bar and started shooting, but police are still investigating whether he was targeting a specific person or just randomly opened fire, Jackson said. It was also not clear if there was an altercation prior to the shooting.
