A Texas man who threatened to blow up the Federal Reserve because he wanted to be “edgy” will serve up to two years in prison, federal prosecutors announced Monday.

Joel Hayden Schrimsher, 19, pleaded guilty in August, more than a year after he sent a tweet reading, “Me: I’m gonna mail a bomb to the Federal Reserve,” according to the Department of Justice.

Law enforcement officials served a search warrant at his home in Harlingen on June 6, 2019 and found “physical and documentary evidence in his room consistent with the message he sent about the Federal Reserve building.”

After he was arrested, officials also found a photo of a fake certificate labeling him as “Most Likely to Damage Federal Property” on his cell phone, according to prosecutors.

“The FBI and our law enforcement partners take threats of violence very seriously,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Combs said in a statement.
